Our Mission

Because God’s grace abounds, we have been transformed and gather together as Foothill Presbyterian Church to glorify God and enjoy God forever. God continues to be at work in us, around us, and through us by prayer, compassion, community, and the Word of God made real to us in Jesus Christ. The Gospel’s hope inspires us to welcome all in simple and radical ways.
Our faith is only meaningful, however, if it is put into action. The task of service calls us to demonstrate God’s grace in tangible ways to our neighborhood and our world. As we shine our light, we invite others to come and see what God is doing.

Our Co-Pastors and Session

Rev Andy Wong and Rev Lindsay Woods Wong

Rev Andy Wong and Rev Lindsay Woods Wong

Lindsay is originally from Poughkeepsie, NY, a suburb of New York City. She is a cradle Presbyterian, and when she screamed through her infant baptism the pastor warned that children like her either become singers or preachers. He was right! After earning her B.S. with highest honors at Penn State, Lindsay served one year as a mission volunteer in Ghana in West Africa before completing her M.Div. at Princeton Theological Seminary.  Her passionate faith inspires her to connect to her neighbors so that God's grace becomes real. She is fluent in both English and Spanish, is a terrible but avid runner, and adores her three children, Caleb, Micah, and Lily who make her laugh and exhaust her to no end.

Andrew (Andy) Wong grew up in Mt. Kisco, NY, about one hour north of New York City.  He studied computer science at MIT in Boston where he became a Christian and Presbyterian at which point he felt a calling to ministry.  He went on to study theology at Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey where he met his wife, Lindsay.  They spent 11 years in Fort Worth, Texas starting their family, serving churches and learning the proper way to cook Mexican food. Andy is a part time co-pastor at FCPC and teaches math and computer science part time at Fusion Academy in Los Gatos.  He loves to hear himself talk, which is why he loves preaching and sharing his faith story.

Presbyterian Churches are lead by a group of Elders elected by the congregation to discern what God wants for us to be and do.  Foothill's session includes Co-pastors Lindsay and Andy and twelve elders who are also members of the church.  All meetings of the session are open and minutes are publicly available.  Our leaders are always available for visits, prayer and support.

What We Believe

Foothill Presbyterian Church is part of the Presbyterian Church (USA). We are grounded in our faith in God, known to us in Jesus Christ, through the Word of God, and this relationship transforms, inspires, and leads us to serve our community.  We confess this faith in the PC(USA) Brief Statement of Faith.

Our Guiding Scripture

Matthew 5:13-16 New Living Translation (NLT)
Teaching about Salt and Light

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.

14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Our History

Our church is part of San Jose Presbytery and began as a missional effort of First Presbyterian Church San Jose to serve the growing foothills community in East San Jose.  Beginning in 1932 as Linda Vista Sunday School the church sought to share God's love through bible study and education.

In 1944 we became Foothill Community Presbyterian Church and in 1960 moved to our current location.  Over the years we have lived out our mission to care for our community in many ways including sponsoring Scout troops, hosting art and music non-profits, and partnering with sister churches such as The Presbyterian Thai Fellowship who continue to worship with us.

In the last twenty years, Foothill has sought to respond to social educational inequality on the East Side by creating the Foothill Christian Preschool and the Foothill Community Concert Series.  We continue in these ministries and many others to answer the call to service in real and tangible ways.
